A brilliant book by Tobias Wolf. I struggled to read this as this book is for people who like some real serious reading. This book is about a bunch of students who study in an old fashioned school and are vying to win the literary competition where they get to take a walk with great writers. Tobias very beautifully weaved his impressions about various authors and poets into the story. I could not stop smiling where, at one point, the school invites Ayn Rand to walk with the winner. Tobias sure is not impressed with Ayn and rips her apart through his characters. I am not a great fan of Ayn Rand myself but her Fountain Head was surely not as bad as Tobias tried to paint in his book. Moreover, Rands objectivism philosophy is quite interesting. Very well written book--The Old School I mean.
